Event serves as only major fundraiser of the year for the Frisco Education Foundation

College scholarships for Frisco ISD students and grant money for teachers are on the line Oct. 26.

On the start/finish line, that is.

The 14th annual Gary Burns Frisco Fun Run, a 1-mile fun run/walk and 5K certified race, is the Frisco Education Foundation's only major fundraiser of the year.

The event has moved from its former location at the Frisco Square to Toyota Stadium (formerly FC Dallas Stadium), to accommodate the approximately 6,000 expected participants in the event, plus friends, family, volunteers and other spectators.

Director Allison Miller said the Frisco Education Foundation works hard to meet the growing needs of the District and its students.

"The rapid growth of the District is both our biggest challenge as a foundation and our greatest inspiration," Miller said. "We're not just raising money for this year's seniors. We're raising money so that scholarships will be available for students who are in kindergarten now."

The event also benefits the Gary Burns Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors the life and work of Frisco Assistant Fire Chief Gary Burns. He died in 1999 of colon cancer.

An avid runner himself, Frisco ISD Superintendent Jeremy Lyon said it is a great opportunity to get healthy while also supporting district students.
