For the next 11 weeks, the intersection of Dove Road and J.T. Ottinger Road will be closed to traffic. Construction crews will be working on reconstructing the busy intersection to improve traffic flow and address pedestrian safety concerns.

The $1.9 million project is part of the Town of Westlake's $43 million capital improvement plan, which outlines 40 capital projects for fiscal years 2012 to 2017.

The section of roadway from Mahotea Boone to Lambert Lane on J.T. Ottinger Road will be closed to traffic, as will the section from J.T. Ottinger Road to Blue Sky Drive on Dove Road. However, residents who live in the area will be allowed access to their residences.

Both sections are scheduled to open just before school begins Aug. 20.

"There is less traffic on the road during the summer and that is what we are working towards is to minimize the least amount of traffic as possible," said Jarrod Greenwood, Westlake's Public Works director.

Traffic will be detoured to Roanoke Road to Melody Lane/Summer Lane. Traffic will continue to Fawkes Lane and Randol Mill Road to Dove Road. Blue Sky Drive to Randol Mill Road on Dove Road will remain open.

"Plan accordingly, allow some additional time to accommodate the extra distance [you] will have to travel in addition to the increased traffic load that is going to be experienced," Greenwood said.

The Town of Westlake in April closed the intersection of Dove Road and Pearson Lane for an estimated $1.5 million project for intersection improvements as part of the capital improvement plan. Westlake plans to open Pearson Lane to Blue Sky Drive on Dove Road, and Pearson Lane to Summer Lane on Dove Road during the first week of July.
