With all precincts reporting, challenger Giovanni Capriglione has beaten longtime District 98 Rep. Vicki Truitt in the Republican primary, according to unofficial results.

Of the 14,381 ballots counted, 7,989 went to the Tea Party-backed Capriglione, giving him 55.55 percent of the vote. Truitt, who's served seven terms in the House, fell behind by about 11 percentage points, racking up only 6,392 votes.

Capriglione — a Southlake resident, business owner and father of three — ran on a solid Tea Party base of no new taxes, improving the state's business climate, promoting government transparency and improving Texas' cash-strapped education system. His platform also includes support of pro-life initiatives, and of tightening security along the border with Mexico. It was his second run against Truitt; he was unsuccessful against her in a 2010 bid for the seat.

There is no Democratic challenger in the District 98 House race, so Capriglione will run unopposed in November.
