Attention Tarrant County property owners: The deadline for tax payments is looming.

The Tarrant County tax office will impose a penalty with interest for any late property tax payments not postmarked by Jan. 31. Payments may be made in person, by phone at 1-800-540-0844 or on the website at www.tarrantcounty.com. The tax office recommends that residents check to confirm that their payment has been received.

"Please note, our phone lines become very busy and the lines become lon as the deadline approaches," Tarrant County Tax Assessor Ron Wright said in a county news release. "The best way to pay or confirm payment is on the tax office website."

Officials say penalties with interest will apply to anyone who is late with their payment, including those who claim they did not receive tax statements.

For residents who have been approved for a homestead exemption, payments may be made in four installments on Jan. 31, March 31, May 31 and July 31.
