The McKinney Fire Department will host a pre-employment informational workshop on at 7 p.m. July 29  in the Conference Center at the Collin College Central Park Campus, 2200 W. University Dr.

The purpose of the event is to educate potential candidates about employment opportunities with the MFD and the pre-requisite requirements needed to take the department's entrance exam. The workshop will also show potential candidates how to navigate the overall hiring process. Applicants will be provided the opportunity to participate in a practice session of the firefighter physical ability test at 8 a.m. July 31 at McKinney Fire Station #2, 2001 Community Ave. The practice PAT will include activities such as climbing the aerial ladder, dragging a life-size mannequin, climbing a multi-story tower and driving a Kaiser sled with a sledgehammer.

In addition to representatives of the McKinney Fire Department, Collin College Fire Academy and the McKinney human resources department will have representatives available to answer questions.

Pre-registration for the workshop is recommended.
