A $5.5 million grant for the McKinney Parks and Recreation Department was discussed Monday during a McKinney Development Corp. meeting. The grant, if approved in July, will help fund various improvements, including the design and construction of park, facilities and trail projects.
The MCDC board will vote to approve or deny the grant request at a meeting in July.
If approved, the grant, which will go toward several projects:
- a complete redesign and upgrade to existing amenities at Cottonwood Park;
- a full renovation of the existing Old Settlers Senior Center, including additional parking and adding 13,000 square, doubling the building’s size;
- improvements to the Juantia Maxfield Aquatic Center Pool;
- upgrades to the Oak Hollow Golf Course; and
- other park projects, such as installing drinking fountains, pavilions and playgrounds.
Several of the planned improvements are in response to a request made by McKinney residents through online questionnaires and city meetings, said Michael Kowski director of the McKinney Parks and Recreation Department.
