Construction crews are working to repair a portion of Virginia Parkway at Stonebridge Drive after the road began to buckle and cracks appeared in the sidewalk. The city of McKinney said construction should be complete Friday, and the sidewalk is expected to reopen Saturday.

"This happens within the city from time to time with extreme heat," said Denise Lessard, communications and media manager with the city of McKinney, in an email. "So, this isn't all that uncommon."

Since the project is considered an emergency repair, no cost estimate is available, said Nick Ataie, the city's capital improvements manager, in an email.

The cost to repair the roadway will come from the city's streets operations budget under the public works department, Ataie said in the email.
