Collin County officials have proposed decreasing the county's property tax rate from $0.225000 per $100 property valuation to $0.208395 per $100 valuation, a 7 percent decrease.
According to county officials, this would be the largest tax rate cut in at least 30 years and the seventh rate cut in the past 10 years. Collin County has not increased its tax rate since 1993.
Commissioners will hold the first public hearing on the proposed tax rate today at 1:30 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Jack Hatchell Administration Building, 2300 Bloomdale Road, McKinney.
The second public hearing will be held at 1:30 p.m. next Monday and the adoption of fiscal year 2016-17 budget, tax rate, elected official salaries and fee schedule will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. All public hearings will take place on the fourth floor of the Jack Hatchell Administration Building.
