The McKinney Education Foundation will receive an added donation from McKinney ISD for the 2018-19 school year after a recent MISD board of trustees vote.

MISD trustees approved two resolutions of support during a Sept. 25 meeting for the MEF and MEF Dream Builders program and donated $60,000 to the MEF.

“MEF is a tremendous asset to MISD,” Chief Financial Officer Jason Bird said during the meeting.

MISD will donate $20,000 to MEF as part of the district’s annual donation and provide “in-kind assistance” in the form of office space and equipment, according to district documents.

The district will also donate $40,000 to the MEF’s Dream Builders program. Bird said in previous years the district donated $20,000 to MEF for the Dream Builders program but saw a need to increase the donation in order to maintain staff levels necessary for the program.

The Dream Builders program helps guide students and parents through the college admissions process, helps students and parents locate and apply for scholarships, researches scholarships and matches them with qualifying students, conducts college 101 courses and financial aid workshops, and more, according to MISD documents. This program is offered at each MISD high school, Bird said.

MEF is a nonprofit foundation with a mission is to inspire and assist MISD students and teachers toward excellence, according to the foundation’s website.
