"I am a proud McKinney native who's been blessed with a career in the same district that afforded me so many opportunities as a child," Nelson said in a press release. "I have loved being part of the Minshew family and look forward to many more years."

Nelson grew up in McKinney and attended MISD elementary schools, Faubion Middle School and McKinney High School. She has also worked with MISD for the past 14 years as a third grade teacher at Johnson Elementary, assistant principal at Eddins Elementary and assistant principal at Minshew Elementary, according to the release.

"She's really going to be able to hit the ground running because of what she already knows of the teachers and students," Suzy Woodard, MISD assistant superintendent of elementary student support, said in the release. "She'll be able to build on the success that she and [current Principal Al Conley] have established and will keep Minshew moving to the next level. She is ready to take the reins."

This position became available when Conley was chosen as principal of Burks Elementary School. Pam Bendorf, current principal of Burks, announced her retirement earlier this month.
