After 62 percent of voters approved bond funding for the $62.8 million stadium, McKinney ISD officials quickly began work to get the ball rolling on construction.

The district is planning to break ground on the stadium in June, with a projected completion date of fall 2017.

Cody Cunningham, chief communications and support services officer, said the district's goal is to be able to provide the same opportunities to its students that neighboring school districts are already providing to their students.

"Our community would not have supported these facilities if we were not also providing exceptional academic environments as well," he said. "The stadium and event center represents only 23 percent of the bond program, with the rest going to renovate schools, expand fine arts facilities, improve school safety and provide technology for classrooms."

The district has already selected Manhattan Construction to build the stadium. Manhattan Construction has built several stadiums in the Dallas-Fort Worth area including AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Globe Life Park, home to the Texas Rangers. Manhattan is also lending a hand to The Ford Center at the Star in Frisco.

"The McKinney ISD stadium and event center will be unique in that the facility serves as both a stadium and as a community events center with a banquet room," Cunningham said. "This multi-purpose facility will not only support football, soccer and band but the event center will be used for student banquets and teacher professional development."
