The Community Internship Program is a summer internship program for McKinney ISD students.

The program, approved by McKinney City Council on Feb. 6, will last a maximum of 10 weeks. Interns will work no more than 20 hours per week and earn at least $8 an hour.

Over the course of the program, the city will also hold training events and ceremonies for interns, according to city documents.

During the program’s inaugural year, the city and MISD will be responsible for organizing the recruitment of interns. Businesses will hire based on its needs. However, Council Member Tracy Rath said she hopes to see the program expand next year to include all students in McKinney, including students who are home-schooled, attend Collin College and attend Frisco ISD.

Applications and the selection process is expected to take place in April or May with the program beginning this summer.
