Tuesday night’s City Council meeting focused heavily on transportation with two agenda items related to traffic signals and signal retiming.

Here is a recap of the approved transportation items at the meeting:

1. Traffic signal to be added at the intersection of Custer and Bloomdale roads

Council members authorized the city manager to enter a Local Project Advance Funding Agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation to furnish signal equipment for this intersection in an amount not to exceed $37,992, according to city documents.

The traffic signal will be uniform and compatible with equipment at other signal locations in McKinney to reduce maintenance response times.

2. Support for a submittal to the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Program

Council members supported a submittal for the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Program, or RTSRP, and Minor Improvement Program Safety call for projects to the North Central Texas Council of Governments.

If awarded to the program, traffic signals along Eldorado Parkway will be retimed. The city would match 20 percent of the total costs of the project, according to city documents.

The city hopes to know if the project was selected for funding in December, Communications & Media Manager Denise Lessard said in an email.
