Tonight's City Council agenda covered a multitude of topics, including transportation projects and the potential need for a new municipal building. Here's what you need to know about the meeting:

Regional transportation priorities

Council supported a variety of regional transportation priorities, including an eastward extension of SH 121 to a point east of Princeton. Among the priorities is the consideration of a new limited access road through Lake Lavon Peninsula, the ongoing efforts by the Texas Department of Transportation in evaluation options for US 380 and efforts to advance the development of the Collin County Outer Loop.

“We can’t do nothing,” Mayor Pro Tem Randy Pogue said. “We must do something,”

City Council also made a point to recognize the need to develop immediate improvements to US 380 from the city of McKinney through the city of Princeton to address safety and congestion issues.

Speed limit established

The speed limit between Wilmeth and Bloomdale roads along Lake Forest Drive was established at tonight’s council meeting. The new speed limit will be 50 mph. North of Bloomdale Road the speed limit is 55 mph and south of Wilmeth Drive the speed limit is 45 mph.

Architect hired for new municipal building study

Council also approved funding to hire Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects. The architect firm will conduct a study to determine the space needs, create a master plan as well as design and construct the new municipal complex.

After the study, which is a six-to-nine-month process, council guidance would be sought before a location, budget and timeline are determined.

Funding to hire the firm is not to exceed $336,800. These funds will be transferred from the Facilities Construction Fund balance to the Capital Improvements Program Project, according to city documents.
