For the second time, local business owners came before McKinney City Council tonight seeking a specific use permit that would allow them to turn their recently purchased and renovated home into a bed and breakfast. Tonight, council voted to approve the SUP.

The new bed and breakfast will be located at 215 N. Waddill St., McKinney. According to the applicants letter of intent, the house is on the National Historical register and was built in 1912 by Sam Neathery, attorney and former Collin County District Attorney.

The owners said they want to maintain and preserve the historic house's Georgian Revival wood architecture and give guests a chance to experience staying at a McKinney historic site overnight.

The owners plan to renovate the property to add restrooms inside the four rooms they plan to offer, and the owners will live on-site as required by city ordinances.

The first time the item came before Council, several neighbors spoke in opposition to the bed and breakfast, citing increased traffic and lack of screening between the property's parking area and neighboring homes. Council asked the applicant to work with neighbors to address screening concerns and come back for a vote.

During tonight's meeting, fewer individuals spoke against the bed and breakfast and more individuals came and spoke in support of the project.
