With another federal holiday and a McKinney City Council meeting planned this week, here are a few things for McKinney residents to keep an eye on in the coming days.
City, county offices closed Monday
McKinney and Collin County will be closed Monday in observance of the holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr. For a full list of city closures, click

Public transit makes its way to council agenda
The McKinney City Council agenda for Tuesday night will feature two items related to public transportation in the city, including a request for federal grant funds to help pay for potential service and another to become the direct recipient of those funds. The city has been without public transit since its service provider folded last November. For the full agenda, click

Council candidate forum to be held Wednesday
The Downtown Business Association presents City Council Candidate Forums the third Wednesday evening of each month, January through April 2017. Downtown business owners, residents and the general public are welcome to attend. Candidates for each of the four open seats (Mayor, District 3, District 1, and At Large) will be able for questions and interviews.
The meetings are scheduled at 6:15 p.m. in the Ballroom at the Grand Hotel. Cocktails and appetizers will be served. This event will include interviews with candidates from District 3 including Sheila Johnson, Jeremiah Hammer and Scott Elliott. Upcoming candidate forums are scheduled for Feb. 15, March 15 and April 19. All forums are open to the general public.
