A runoff election occurs when no candidate in a race receives more than 50 percent of the vote. The top two vote-getters in each race advance to a runoff.

After the March 6 primary elections, there are several runoffs.

Jim Carter will run against Dianne Edmondson for Denton County commissioner, Precinct 4, on the Republican ballot. Also, James Kerbow and William Lawrence will face off for justice of the peace, Precinct 3, to become the Republican nominee. There will also be runoffs for district clerk and justice of the peace in Precinct 4.

If you did not vote in the March 6 primary elections, you can still vote in the May 22 primary runoff elections. If you voted in the March 6 primary elections, you must vote with the same party in the May 22 runoff elections.

Early voting for the May 22 primary runoff election runs from May 14-18. The last day to register to vote for that election is April 23.
