More than 3,000 residents who live within the four ZIP codes that make up Community Impact Newspaper’s Keller-Roanoke-Northeast Fort Worth coverage area filed for unemployment insurance between April 29-May 30, according to data from the Texas Workforce Commission.

The commission released a new interactive mapping tool in late April that breaks down unemployment insurance claims at the ZIP code level.

According to the data, 3,044 unemployment insurance claims were filed by residents within the Keller-Roanoke-Northeast Fort Worth area, which accounts for 1.72% of the area’s total population of 176,899.

During the same time period, Tarrant County had 42,627 unemployment insurance claims, which accounts for 2.06% of the county’s total population of 2,064,380. Denton County had 16,249 unemployment insurance claims, which accounts for 1.89% of the county's total population of 861,357.

Of the total number of claimants in the Keller-Roanoke-Northeast Fort Worth area, 1,501 were men, and 1,543 were women.


According to the data, ZIP code 76244 had the most claimants, with 1,408 residents filing for benefits, while ZIP code 76177 had the highest percentage of claimants as compared to its total population, at 2.89%.

In addition, ZIP code 76177 had the lowest number of claimants, with 474 people filing for benefits, while ZIP code 76248 had the lowest percentage of claimants as compared to its total population, at 1.28%.

Here are the number of unemployment insurance claimants for Keller-Roanoke-Northeast Fort Worth-area ZIP codes, per June 8 data and population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.

  • 76262: 630 UI claimants, or 1.57% of the population of 40,215

  • 76248: 532 UI claimants, or 1.28% of the population of 41,516

  • 76244: 1,408 UI claimants, or 1.79% of the population of 78,783

  • 76177: 474 UI claimants, or 2.89% of the population of 16,385

  • Total: 3,044 UI claimants, or 1.72% of the population of 176,899
