During their regular meeting on Jan. 24, Roanoke City Council voted unanimously to appoint Cody Petree as city manager.

Petree took over as the interim city manager after former City Manager Scott Campbell resigned on Sept. 27. Campbell left after more than nine years of working for Roanoke to become city manager of Corinth, Texas.

“I am honored and excited to be selected to serve as the city manager of the city of Roanoke,” Petree said. “I have been uniquely privileged to serve the city of Roanoke community and work with so many of its great leaders for many years.”

Petree thanked the mayor and council, city staff, and members of the community for all their hard work and support during his tenure with the city, especially during his time as interim city manager.

“Together we will continue to provide world-class service and continue to make Roanoke a great place to live, work and play,” he said.

Petree has worked for the city in different capacities since 2004. He has served in various departments, including public works, community development, economic development and administration. He also served as Roanoke’s assistant city manager since June 2018, overseeing parks and recreation, the library, planning and development, public works, and economic development, before serving as interim city manager.

Petree started his public administration career with the city of Watauga, Texas, in 1999, serving as the public works and parks superintendent. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration and has more than 24 years of governmental experience.
