Types of communities
Independent-living communities cater to 55-and-up adults with limited care needs. Most facilities include lifestyle amenities, such as fitness centers, social calendars, housekeeping and on-site meals.
Assisted-living communities specialize in providing care and supervision to seniors. They usually offer amenities as well as medical assistance and programs.
Memory care facilities cater to seniors who have cognitive brain disorders, such as dementia or Alzheimer’s, or who have other forms of memory loss. Staff members are trained to help members manage these issues while providing comfortable living.
Hospice care is designed to relieve symptoms and suffering related to terminal illnesses in those who have been given six months or less to live. In order to receive hospice care, the patient must forgo further treatment.
Nursing home/skilled nursing facilities help those with mental or physical conditions that require full-time care and medical monitoring.
