The city of Colleyville will host a community prayer vigil July 8 to honor and support the victims of the July 7 shooting in Dallas that killed five law enforcement officers.

The vigil will be held at 6 p.m. at the Colleyville Justice Center, 5201 Riverwalk Drive, Colleyville.

"Like the rest of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the nation, we are shocked and saddened by the events in Dallas last night," Colleyville Mayor Richard Newton said. "As the city of Dallas and the Dallas police seek answers about these crimes and those who committed them, we turn our thoughts to those who were lost and to their families. Our prayers are with them and with those officers and police personnel who, in the midst of such tragedy, continue to protect us, in Dallas, across the nation, and here in our own community.

"I'm proud of our police officers and all police officers, wherever they may serve," he added. "I hope that everyone in the Colleyville community and in extended communities will come together in support of our police officers and all those that put their lives on the line to ensure our citizens' safety every day."
