Colleyville’s Hometown Cafe is adorned with iron designs and modern art and has an outdoor patio area with hanging potted plants. It is reflective of the owner, Kye Lee, who said he has traveled the world and brought his favorite things to Colleyville. Lee used his travels and interests to create his take on what a cafe can offer to his community.

“For me, ‘cafe’ means good coffee and food,” he said, adding that is what he has a passion to provide to his customers.

Lee did not start in the food business, but after working at an ad agency in South Korea and then doing some photography for the Dallas Morning News, Lee got married and started a family. He said he wanted to pursue something more fulfilling.

“Sometimes [freelancing] was hard to do, and I’d seen enough,” he said. “I wanted my own story.”

He said he has always had an interest in coffee, drinks and good food.

“My concept is organic, gourmet food,” Lee said. “We serve 100 percent organic tea, coffee and organic meals, of course.”

The menu offers organic tea and coffees ($2-$5), smoothies in a variety of flavors ($5), pizzas ($13-$17) and sandwiches ($8.50-$11). The cafe also offers breakfast sandwiches ($5) as well as a salad bar.

Lee said his pizzas are the most popular food item. An arugula pizza is baked on a flaky crust with mozzarella and pesto, and after coming out of the oven it is topped with fresh arugula and parmesan. He said adding prosciutto to the pizza adds some color and flavor to the dish.

Coffees are a popular menu item as well, and Lee said he and his staff are working to provide some seasonal menu items and flavors. A cappuccino flavored with pumpkin is served in a white mug, with the dark espresso swirled with white foam.

Lee said his menu is constantly expanding as he masters new recipes to bring to his customers. In the end, he said, he wants the people he serves to feel good about what they eat.
