On March 24 Colleyville residents came out to lawn space next to City Hall to usher in the city’s first ever weekly farmers market.

The morning event featured a ribbon cutting and a brief performance from the Colleyville Heritage High School Panteras as well as a welcome from Mayor Richard Newton.

The city of Colleyville is partnering with Four Seasons Markets, an established group that has a track record of running European-style farmers markets in the area, to allow residents to shop for local organic produce and artisanal goods.

“I am glad that we were able to partner with Four Seasons Markets to bring an exceptional, weekly market to Colleyville,” Newton said in a statement. “A farmers market brings friends, families, and neighbors together, and that is the purest picture of the community we have here.”

The market also gives shoppers the opportunity to get to know the men and women who harvested or crafted the items each week.

“We’ve occasionally heard commentary from residents requesting a farmers market, and we are happy to be able to bring this to them,” Colleyville Communications Director Dustin Dangli said in an email.

Dangli said each week will feature 30-40 local vendors selling a variety of produce, meats, cheeses, spices, coffees, soaps, crafts, clothing and toys.

“Last year we purchased the property just south of City Hall to host events and for future economic development opportunities,” Dangli said. “We are glad to be able to already be utilizing this space.”

According to the Four Seasons Markets website, Four Seasons has a network of more than 400 local vendors. These vendors sign up to participate each week, which will allow the Colleyville farmers market to see a variety of farmers and artisans based on local tastes and what items are in season.

The city website said city staff will also look to supplement periodic market days with other events such as live music, children’s activities, art and other events.
