With Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney set to begin his second term in office, his chief of staff announced April 24 she was stepping down from her post to return to the private sector.

Lorie Medina said she loved her time working for the mayor, but after 12 years in politics, including the last three with Cheney, she was ready for a change.

“I tend to be very entrepreneurial, in that I like to start things, [but] I don't like to run things forever,” Medina said.

She said was proud of what she accomplished alongside the mayor, calling him a true leader. She said the chief of staff position is a “really hard-charging job,” but noted she had fulfilled her big goals for it.

“I feel so blessed to be able to do what I did for Mayor Cheney,” she said. “I feel like the job was created by God for me, to just be quite honest.”

As for the future, Medina said she has several opportunities she is considering and plans to take her time and figure out which one is best for her and her family.

Cheney shared Medina’s announcement on his official Facebook page as well as in his weekly email newsletter, stating he was grateful she pushed him every day to be a better mayor.

“She certainly could have left a long time ago for bigger and better things but remained loyal to her promise to finish my first term,” he wrote. “She did so out of a love for our family and her love for Frisco and desire to see her community thrive.”

The mayor said he did not plan to hire a new chief of staff, as he is confident city staff will be able to take on the work going forward.
