Another mosquito pool in Frisco has tested positive for West Nile virus, bringing the total number of positive West Nile virus pools this year in the city to 25.

The city will ground spray the Starwood neighborhood area from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. Aug. 20 and 21, weather permitting. No human cases of the virus in Frisco have been confirmed.

The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed 48 cases of either West Nile fever or West Nile neuroinvasive disease so far this year in Texas. Collin and Denton counties each have had five confirmed cases. TDSHS recommends following four steps to avoid mosquitos:

  • Wear insect repellent containing DEET.

  • Drain standing water.

  • Wear long sleeves and pants at dusk and dawn.

  • Use air conditioning, and secure windows and screens.
