Since it began operations Aug. 3, the site has done about 56,000 tests between its current location and its previous one in the parking lot of Dr Pepper Ballpark. The current site, which is being funded by the Texas Division of Emergency Management, is located at the northwest corner of Technology Drive and World Cup Way.
Frisco Fire Battalion Chief Jake Owen, who represents the city of Frisco at the testing site, said he expects the site will continue operating for the foreseeable future.
“The state of Texas has committed to maintain operations as long as a demand is present,” Owen said via email. “I am optimistic that we will continue operations into the new year.”
Frisco Fire Chief Mark Piland said the site has completed around 12,000 tests since it relocated to the Toyota Stadium lot Nov. 2. Owen noted the site averaged 969 tests per day during the second week of November. Curative Inc., the company doing the testing, recently increased the site’s daily test capacity to 1,250, Piland said.
“We’re really happy about this service,” Piland said during the Nov. 17 Frisco City Council meeting. “You don’t have to live in Frisco, [and] you don’t have to live in Texas. Anyone that wants to [get tested] can sign up at the website, and you can get tested.”
Pre-registration is required to get tested. Owen said registration can be done at Texas.curativeinc.com and takes “two to three minutes” to complete. He said the service is used by many Frisco residents, but stated residents from more than 180 ZIP codes took a test there last week.
Appointments are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, except for Thanksgiving and the following two days. Owen said the average time on site for vehicles is about 10 minutes, though the wait is longer around 8 a.m. and around lunch time.
A video with instructions on the testing process is available here. The video states those wishing to be tested should not eat, drink, smoke or brush their teeth for 20 minutes before taking the test. The FDA-approved test is an observed self-collected test, which means participants are given the testing materials and instructions to collect their own sample while they remain inside their vehicles.
Curative Inc. reports that its test has an 89% accuracy rate. Participants receive results within two to four days, according to a city news release.
The Frisco site is among dozens of places in North Texas that offer COVID_19 tests. Click on the test locations on the map below for details at each site.
