The city of Frisco will soon open a new courthouse and has named it after a municipal judge.

Frisco City Council on Aug. 17 approved naming the new court building the Judge Edmund Burke Frisco Municipal Courthouse, located at 8450 Moore St.

Burke has served the city of Frisco for around 40 years, a city memo from Presiding Judge Art Maldonado said. The naming comes following numerous requests within the Frisco Police Department and courts division, the memo states, many of whom have praised his reliability and continuing commitment to the city.

Burke was appointed as the municipal judge for the city of Frisco in the early 80s, and saw the community transition from “a small farming community into the bustling suburb it is today.” The new courthouse will be his fifth, according to the city.

Judge Edmund Burke Frisco Municipal Courthouse will open Aug. 30. Phone, online and e-court services will have interruptions between Aug. 16-20, according to the city. During the transition, items may still be mailed to the Frisco Municipal Court using the new address.
