Frisco will be the host site of the national finals for the United States Academic Decathlon at the Embassy Suites on April 18-21.

The academic decathlon is a high school scholarship competition with local, region, state and national competitors. The program has student participants from all school sizes and academic levels competing for scholarship monies.

The competition consists of students taking tests in economics, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music and literature. Students are also interviewed on their high school activities in addition to preparing  speeches and writing a 50-minute essay.

The national finals will require about 300 volunteers, some of which will be judges during the interview and speech portions of the competition.

The time commitment for a volunteer is a seven-hour block on April 19. Shorter commitments are available for April 20. Volunteer judges and proctors must be 18 years older.
