Frisco Education Foundation fundraiser aims to raise $100,000


FEF's I'M IN campaign is looking to raise $100,000 by July 31. The campaign has raised about $20,000 so far, according to FEF's home page. The community can donate through FEF's website.

The nonprofit organization offers scholarships and grants to Frisco ISD students and educators.

Changes to city's open space requirements on the table


Frisco Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Frisco City Hall, 6101 Frisco Square Blvd. During the meeting, the commission will hold a public hearing regarding changing the open space requirements for non-residential developments. The proposed changes include upping the minimum amount of open space from 7 percent to 10 percent of the total net acreage. It is also proposed to increase the minimum number of required amenities from five to eight.

Collin College considers revising mission statement


Collin College board of trustees will discuss revising the college's mission statement during the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Collin Higher Education Center, 3452 Spur 399, McKinney. The proposed revisions include adding the words "baccalaureate degrees" under what the college's programs will lead to.

Senate Bill 2118, passed during this year's Texas legislative session, allows some community colleges to offer baccalaureate nursing degree programs. Collin College was one of the state's community college's that pushed for the bill.

Officials celebrate Denton County Government Center opening


City and county officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate the opening of the Denton County Government Center in Frisco, 5533 FM 423. The center held a soft opening June 12.

The $8 million, 24,000-square-foot center includes the county clerk’s office, the justice of the peace, the county constable’s office, the county tax office and an office for the state representative. It also includes adult and juvenile probation offices.
