The seat—an unexpired term that will run through 2018—is currently held by council member Bob Allen, who is vacating the seat to run for Frisco mayor.
Keating served on Frisco City Council from 2010 to 2015, ending his term as the mayor pro tem. He did not seek re-election in 2015 to run for state representative of District 33. State Rep.-elect Justin Holland, R-Heath, defeated Keating in a primary runoff election.
Since then, Keating said he has spent time with his family and taken a break from politics. But now, he said he would like to file for Council again to help with the changes in the city that are expected to happen within the next year.
“We may see within six to 12 months of our new mayor being elected a change here in city staff at the senior level and throughout the building,” he said. “To be here during that transition … I think I can lend a hand based on the work we’ve done in the past.”
Keating said one of his proudest initiatives he got to be a part of is keeping the tax rate low.
“Property taxes have just gotten away from themselves,” he said. “… I think Frisco can provide a voice as a fast growing city, as a city of success here in the state of Texas.”
Some other city milestones that occurred during Keating’s previous tenure on Council include the Dallas Cowboys announcing the move to Frisco and the closing of the Exide Technologies plant.
Some of Keating’s areas of concern include managing apartment growth, being proactive with building infrastructure and supporting the police and fire departments.
Keating spent 13 years in the U.S. Army and is active in the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post and The American Legion. He is also a graduate of Leadership Frisco Class XIII.
Keating has lived in Frisco since 1999 with his family.
Filing for the Place 1 seat began today and runs through Dec. 5. The special election to fill Place 1 is scheduled for Jan. 14. Visit
