With budget season underway, cities and counties are approving their tax rates and annual budgets for fiscal year 2016-17.

Two tax rates and budgets affecting the city of Frisco are set to be approved this week. Frisco City Council will also consider this week ways to expand transportation options for elderly and disabled residents.

Here are three things to pay attention to this week:

1. Frisco City Council is set to approve its FY17 budget and tax rate tomorrow during the regular meeting. The proposed $439-million budget includes increases to the water, sewer and utility billing fees. The proposed tax rate is $0.45, one penny less than the current tax rate.

2. Collin County Commissioners Court is also set to approve its FY17 budget and tax rate during today's meeting. The proposed combined tax rate is $0.208395. The proposed budget includes a $24.6 million increase from FY 2015-16 because of new property on the county’s tax rolls. According to county documents, the county has seen a total budget increase of 5 percent since 2010.

3. Frisco City Council will also vote on a proposal to extend and expand its contract with the Denton County Transportation Authority. DCTA currently offers demand response services for elderly and disabled residents. City staff is proposing extending DCTA's contract to Nov. 30, 2017 and adding a taxi partnership program, which would allow for increased ridership and trips into a portion of Plano.
