1. MISD is continuing its efforts to back the blue
The district has been honoring its school resource officers during board meetings this year and continues its newly minted tradition. This month both Officers Bryant Bailey and Mindy Martin were recognized.
Bryant was previously a New Orleans police officer for 13 years and has been a McKinney ISD school resource officer for nine years. He has spent those years at three different campuses and is currently serving at McKinney North High School.
Martin previously served at the Collin County Detention Facility before becoming a school resource officer at McKinney ISD, a title she has held for 11 years. She has also served three different MISD campuses and is currently stationed at McKinney High School.
2. McKinney High Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps bring home trophy
The McKinney High Marine JROTC cadets brought home the 9/11 Heroes Run Award for their participation in the event. The trophy was well earned, said their Chief Warrant Officer Ronnie McPhatter, who told board members of the cadets' previous experience at the event. McPhatter said the corps would have won the event last year but instead, turned back and helped another group of participants cross the finish line. This year, MISD JROTC cadets not only won the race, he said, but they beat the second place team by 4 minutes. To learn more about this program, click here.
3. MISD board votes to support the McKinney Education Foundation
The McKinney Education Foundation is a nonprofit created to centralize, simplify and enhance the process of raising money for and awarding scholarships to deserving graduates of the three McKinney high schools, as well as Serenity High. MISD has been supporting the MEF through in-kind or cash donations since September 2003 through office space and equipment as well as a $20,000 donation.
