The Texas State Library and Archives Commission presented a $10,000 check to the Plano Public Library System on Nov. 18 at Haggard Library in Plano.

The grant will be used to purchase MacBooks, which will be used to support the library system’s existing digital literacy and science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, or STEAM, initiatives at Plano’s five libraries.

Additional community outreach programs are planned pairing the MacBook laptops with Lego WeDo and EV3 kits, MaKey MaKeys, littleBits, PicoBoards and digital creation software to spark interest in STEAM-related learning opportunities. The project is just one of 70 made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act.
