Frisco City Council approved a purchase agreement Aug. 4 that allows the city to buy the conference center attached to the Omni Hotel coming to The Star development.

The conference center will be purchased with certificates of obligation bonds, which are bonds not approved by voters. The agreed purchase price for the conference center is $17.5 million.

The city will purchase the conference center once it is complete.

Additionally, the Frisco Economic Development Corp. agreed to fund $3 million in infrastructure costs if the hotel meets certain requirements. If the hotel does not have enough qualifying infrastructure to receive the full $3 million from the FEDC, the Frisco Community Development Corp. will provide Omni a grant to fund the remainder of the $3 million.

The agreement states Omni could lease the conference center from the city and eventually provides the option for Omni to purchase back the conference center.

The conference center will be 43,000 square feet, including 13,000 square feet of main ballroom space and 24,000 square feet of breakout space. The attached Omni Hotel will be about 250,000 square feet with 16 stories and 300 rooms. The hotel will be part of The Star, a 91-acre mixed-use development at Warren Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway.
