At a Frisco City Council meeting Tuesday night, the North Texas Tollway Authority presented improvement plans for the Dallas North Tollway that would add additional lanes to relieve congestion.

NTTA Technical Oversight Leader Mark Bouma was there as a representative of NTTA to give the council a report regarding roadway improvement projects.

Bouma said in the next five years NTTA is looking to do capital improvements and expansions to existing roadways. He said roadways are running at capacity and NTTA is now facing aging infrastructure issues.

One of the key projects that NTTA has started construction on is the expansion of the Dallas North Tollway through Plano, where Bouma said 170,000 vehicles travel every day.

The DNT projects will include adding a fourth lane to Sam Rayburn Tollway to President George Bush Turnpike and one from PGBT to Belt Line Road.

The SRT fourth lane project will be between the Dallas North Tollway and Business 121. Construction to be built in phases and is expected to start in 2018.

Mayor Maher Maso asked if there were any plans to improve DNT north of SRT in Frisco along the $5 Billion Mile adding that Frisco has become a prime destination.

Bouma said there are no current plans but with existing heavy traffic and the more to come, NTTA will take it into consideration.

Mix-used development in Frisco Square

Council approved for rezoning to move forward on 252.2 acres for Frisco Station's mixed used project in the $5 Billion Mile.

The project was discussed in last week's planning and zoning commission meeting. The development will wrap around the new Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters and Frisco's multi-use event center at the Dallas North Tollway and Warren Parkway. It has been described as a regional activity center.

The plan combines spaces for office, retail, restaurant and urban living units all along a central spine of open space.
