Registered city of Frisco volunteers collectively volunteered 22,823 hours in 2013—hours valued at more than $530,000.

Those volunteers were honored at the seventh annual Municipal Volunteer Program Awards Reception on April 23 at City Hall.

Of 5,293 registered volunteers, 1,680 volunteers are considered active, meaning they volunteered at least once in 2013.

"It's such a huge number, it's an amazing number to have," Mayor Maher Maso told the volunteers. "Many people associate being a volunteer as it being part-time, you do it because you enjoy it, because it's fun. We know that's why you do it, but it's not always easy—it's work. It takes hours, dedication and passion."
