On the first Friday of every month, the Sci-Tech Discovery Center invites veterans to the Makerspace studio to learn, create, build and make. This event is free, but a military ID is required. Children over 10 years old are also welcome, and each guest will be able to work on their own projects. There will be instructional programs on Arduino microcontrollers and laser cutters. The first session begins at 6 p.m., and the second session begins at 7 p.m. at the Sci-Tech Discovery Center, 8004 Dallas Parkway, Frisco.

Fathers and daughters are invited to a night of dancing, treats and refreshments at the McKinney Community Center, 2001 S. Central Expressway, McKinney, for the Daddy-Daughter Valentine’s Dance. Professional photography is also available for an additional charge. Tickets are $20 each for McKinney residents, $20 for each additional child and $25 for each nonresident. The event runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased through the city of McKinney’s website.

The 21st annual Daddy Daughter Dance exclusively for fathers and daughters will take place at the Embassy Suites Convention Center, 7600 John Q. Hammons Drive, Frisco, from 2 to 9:30 p.m. The event’s theme is “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” and the dance includes music and a photo booth. Tickets are available through the city of Frisco’s website and are $20 per person for Frisco residents and $25 per person for nonresidents.

The city of Southlake celebrates Valentine’s Day with a 1950s-themed Sweetheart Dance from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Marq Southlake Traditions Ballroom, 285 Shady Oaks Drive, Southlake. Light refreshments and a complimentary photo are provided. Children under the age of 2 are free and general admission is $15. Preregistration is required and can be completed at the city of Southlake’s website.

From 7 to 9 p.m., fathers and daughters will gather at Plano Centre, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, for the city of Plano’s 16th annual Daddy’s Little Sweetheart Dance. The dance is open to girls ages 4-14, dads, grandfathers and other responsible male figures. Admission is $20 per person, which includes light refreshments and a photo booth. Tickets can be purchased through the city of Plano’s Park and Recreation website until Friday at 3 p.m.

Grapevine’s Historic Palace Theatre, 300 S. Main St., will be showing “Say Anything,” (1989) a romantic comedy-drama about an underachiever who wants nothing more than to go out with the valedictorian. In the film, he attempts to win her heart over the objections of her father before she leaves for college in England. Tickets are $6 per person and can be purchased on the theater’s website.

The McKinney Performing Arts Center presents the Hot Club of San Francisco: "Cinema Vivant"— a showing of silent films with live gypsy jazz accompaniment. The silent film screening includes “There It Is” (1928), “The Cameraman’s Revenge” (1912) and “The Mascot” (1933). The screening will take place from 8 to 9:30 p.m. at the Courtroom Theater at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee St., McKinney. Tickets, which are $25 for attendees ages 6-22, $30 for seniors age 65 and older and $35 for adults, are available on the MPAC website.

The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Flute Choir will present “Giving Bach, a concert featuring flute ensemble favorites. Under the direction of Priscilla Holt, the Flute Choir is an ensemble consisting of 14 members of the flute family, including the piccolo, C flute, alto flute and bass flute. The concert is free and will take place at the Black Box Theatre, 8004 N. Dallas Parkway, Frisco, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
