Tina Garrett and Nancy Hale were announced as the new principals of two Grapevine-Colleyville ISD elementary schools July 22. Garrett was named the new principal of Cannon Elementary, and Hale was named the principal of Grapevine Elementary. On June 27, James Whitfield was also announced as the principal of Heritage Middle School.

“I am overjoyed to be able to lead a campus that has been my home for the last six years,” Hale said in a district statement. “I am committed to using innovative instructional strategies to promote high academic standards, and I cannot wait to serve the families of Grapevine Elementary School in this new capacity.”

In June, former Grapevine Elementary principal Liz Hilcher transitioned to the role of Timberline Elementary principal, leaving the vacancy Hale would eventually fill.

Hale started teaching at Grapevine Elementary School as a third-grade teacher in 2013, according to the GCISD statement. She has been an assistant principal at Grapevine Elementary since 2017.

Garrett was selected as principal for Cannon Elementary School, a GCISD STEM School, following former principal Tona Blizzard's retirement in June.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the families and staff at Cannon Elementary School,” Garrett said in a statement. “I am committed to providing innovative leadership that supports authentic learning experiences for students.”

Garrett has been involved with STEM education—science, technology, engineering and math—since 2007 as a science teacher in Garland ISD, according to the GCISD statement. She has been responsible for the high school STEM program at Grapevine High School since 2017.

Whitfield is joining Heritage Middle School after serving as an assistant principal at Colleyville Heritage High School.

“I am thrilled and honored to be selected as Principal of Heritage Middle School,” Whitfield said in a statement. “Heritage Middle is a special place with a rich history of excellence. I look to honor the legacy of our past by building relationships with the staff, students, and families of HMS to ensure we build upon the greatness that exists.”

Whitfield replaces Scott Saettel after Saettel became an assistant principal at Colleyville Heritage High School, according to a district news release. Whitfield has served as the principal of Richland Middle School and assistant principal at North Ridge Middle School.
