Virginia and Laud Howell parkways: McKinney transportation projects taking place in July

1. Pearson Avenue improvements
Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures or road closures along Pearson Avenue from Waddill to Kentucky streets over the next year. Construction crews will work on various infrastructure improvements in the area, including replacing an existing water main and repaving Pearson.

2. Virginia Parkway widening
The city of McKinney expects the western section of the Virginia Parkway widening project from Ridge Road to Bellegrove Drive to be complete in July. Drivers can expect various lane closures on Virginia from Bellegrove to US 75 on weekdays in July from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. while construction work takes place.

3. Jordan Road reconstruction

4. Laud Howell Parkway extension
Design is underway for the extension of Laud Howell Parkway from Trinity Falls Parkway to the future Hardin Boulevard as a four-lane, divided road. This design will allow the city to expand the roadway to six lanes in the future.

This extension is a private-public partnership with the city paying for 75 percent of the construction costs and a developer paying the remaining costs, according to terms of the agreement.

A future extension of Laud Howell from Hardin to Lake Forest Drive would take place at a later date depending on future development needs.

5. Redbud Boulevard widening and McLarry Drive improvements
