Transportation updates: Waketon Road to open to traffic in March

Here are the latest updates on transportation projects in Lewisville and Flower Mound.



FM 2499 improvements
The project includes the replacement of an undersized drainage structure under FM 2499 west of the FM 2499/Gerault Road intersection, the installation of a new drainage structure for the existing drainage structure that is being replaced running along the western side of FM 2499 to Denton Creek, and the extension of the flyover lane into Grapevine and FM 2499/Gerault intersection improvements. Crews are currently working on installing drainage improvements. The drainage work is expected to help prevent flooding on the road, which the town has experienced in recent years.

FM 544 widening
Work on FM 544 from FM 2281 to Parker/Dozier Road is 50 percent complete. The road is being widened from a two-lane rural roadway to a six-lane, divided urban curb-and-gutter roadway with a raised median. There are bridges being built that will run over the Kansas City Southern Railroad line and Indian Creek. Crews are currently tying rebar, setting bridge panels and overhangs. They are also preparing to pour the deck on the Indian Creek bridge.

Timeline: summer 2015-October 2019
Cost: $35.3 million
Funding sources: cities of Carrollton and Lewisville, Texas Department of Transportation, Denton County






Waketon Road paving
The contractor is currently finalizing the storm sewer installation. The contractor’s current schedule includes subgrade preparation beginning early February with paving to follow. The contractor anticipates the road opening to traffic in March. The project consists of the upgrade of the existing Waketon Road and Rippy Road asphalt roads located adjacent to the Bradford Parks subdivision to a two-lane urban collector. The temporary northbound lane is installed.

Valley Vista subdivision repairs
Residential streets in the Valley Vista subdivision in Lewisville will undergo street and sidewalk maintenance repairs. Acorn Drive from Vista Drive to Cassion Drive as well as Cassion from Little Den Drive to the L section on Cassion are scheduled for repairs in February.
