1. Towne Lake Park temporarily closed
Towne Lake Park will be closed Jan. 2-15 as the city of McKinney is in the process of replacing aging playground equipment. This is a city-wide project that will begin with Towne Lake Park. Work will be completed one playground at a time, and each playground will be closed during construction, according to the city.
2. City Council to meet Tuesday night
Council will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. at city hall, 222 N. Tennessee St., McKinney. During the meeting, council will discuss resolutions of support for nine percent low-income housing tax credits from affordable housing developers. Resolutions include Evergreen at 380, Maddox Square, The Heights, Sphinx at McKinney Ranch Senior Villas and Circle F Ranch.

3. McKinney libraries host Winterfest
Winterfest will take place Jan. 3 at John and Judy Gay Library and Jan. 4 at Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library. At this free event, attendees will make winter-themed crafts and play winter-themed games. Attendees are welcome to come and go from 10:30 a.m.-noon. 4. New director hired for McKinney National Airport
The city of McKinney has hired Kenneth Carley as the new director of the McKinney National Airport. Carley will begin Feb. 5, according to a release from the city.
Carley has more than 25 years of aviation management experience and has worked as the assistant director of aviation and operations for the Metropolitan Airport Authority in Rock Island County, Illinois, according to the release.
Former airport director Kenneth Wiegand retired in December after working at the airport for 15 years.
