John and Jennifer Garrett, co-owners and publishers of Community Impact Newspaper, announced June 19 that they will begin a new printing company to service the publication.

Garrett said he has filed paperwork with the state to create Impact Printing Co. He said he hopes to break ground on a new $10 million facility in Pflugerville near SH 130 inside the 130 Commerce Center, which houses Community Impact Newspaper's headquarters, in July and to have the facility completed by May. Garrett said if everything goes according to plan, he hopes to be printing the paper in August 2016.

"[Bringing printing in-house] ensures to the reader that the product is going to get better," Garrett said. "We now control so much more of the production quality."

Garrett said printing the product in-house will allow for more customized editorial and advertising content.

"For local businesses [printing the paper locally] improves efficiency and allows them to better market their businesses to potential customers," he said.

Garrett said the facility will employ about 14-18 people at first with the potential to grow later.

"These skills are very hard [to obtain]," he said. "Being able to give these folks jobs is very rewarding to us."

Community Impact Newspaper is distributed in 20 markets in the Austin, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth metro areas. The Garretts began the newspaper in 2005.
