After nearly 65 years, Austin restaurant The Frisco Shop announces closure

The Frisco Shop, a North Austin restaurant that was on track to celebrate its 65th anniversary in August, announced it will close July 29, citing staffing challenges and increased competition. Founded in 1953 by Harry Akin as part of his chain, Harry Akin's Night Hawk, the restaurant was the first in Austin to integrate following the Civil Rights Movement. South Austin vintage store Bloomers and Frocks to expand

Bloomers and Frocks, a vintage women’s clothing and accessories store located at 1628 S. First St., Austin, in half of a vintage stone house will expand to occupy the entire house in mid-July. The expansion will double the shop’s size and expand the business' selection to include more vintage items as well as gifts and accessories from local artisans. Austin Geriatric Center begins renovation of East Austin senior center

The Austin Geriatric Center broke ground on the Rebekah Baines Johnson Senior Center May 1. The project, located on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake at 21 Waller St., Austin, includes a renovation of the existing 16-story tower and the addition of a five-story wraparound building, which will include 279 new units of affordable housing for seniors.
