Professionals in the Oak Hill area can hear the latest about interim improvement projects on Hwy. 290 at an Oak Hill Business and Professional Association meeting Feb. 5.

The meeting will include updates about Oak Hill Parkway,an environmental study to address long-term issues at the congested intersection of Hwy. 290 and Hwy. 71, known as the Y at Oak Hill. The Texas Department of Transportation, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, the City of Austin and Travis County are working on the Oak Hill Parkway study.

TxDOT is also making interim improvements on Hwy.290 that are intended to provide temporary relief for local drivers. At the meeting, two TxDOT staffers Victor Vargas, south Travis area engineer, and Public Information Officer Kelli Reyna will update residents on the interim improvements.

Reyna said work on new continuous-flow intersections on Hwy. 290 is still in progress and the intersections should be finished by summer. Another project to enhance the Joe Tanner Lane intersection was completed in August, and other interim improvements were completed in September, Reyna said.

At the meeting TxDOT will also display a map showing how CFIs operate, Reyna said.

"Our [traffic models] show that this [intersection] will improve travel time by 30 to 50 percent, and so it will definitely be helpful for anybody who is driving to or through this area," she said.

The Oak Hill Business and Professional Association luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Mandola's Italian Market at 4301 W. William Cannon Drive. Individual admission costs $20. More information is available at www.ohbpa.org.
