Work began in July 2017 on a Texas Department of Transportation project to widen the portion of Hwy. 290 between East Circle Drive and El Rey Boulevard. The project will add a center turn lane and shoulders, increasing the number of lanes from four to five. Crews are awaiting warmer temperatures to conduct final paving and striping, which should take about two weeks once it begins. The project should be complete later this spring.
