Established by the Oak Hill Business Professional Association in 2013, the Oak Hill Young Business Award recognizes initiative and raises awareness of the tools and talents needed in the business world. Each year up to $5,000 is awarded to the high school student who submits the strongest business plan. All applicants must either live in the Oak Hill area or have at least one Oak Hill resident on their team.

OHBPA President Stacy Bray said results were lackluster the first two years the award was offered. This year, the bar has been raised to solicit quality material.

"The students are competing for an award that can be used for their business or education, so to be a strong competitor for this award the business plan will need to be complete and well-thought-out," she said.

OHBPA will offer free tutoring to help applicants develop a competitive business plan for their existing or proposed businesses.

The first-place winner will be awarded $5,000, with the second- and third-place winners earning $2,000 and $1,000, respectively. Judges may change the amount of money awarded based on the strength of submitted business plans.

Applications are currently available online. The deadline to submit is April 17.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants may participate as individuals or as teams. Each team member must complete a separate application, but the team submits one business plan.

  • Individuals or at least one member of a team must reside in the Oak Hill Area defined as west of Brodie Lane to the Travis County line and north to Barton Creek and to the Bee Cave city limit (see map below).

  • All applicants must be Texas high school students from public, private or homeschools.

  • Participants must develop a business plan for a project or business they envision or have already
    initiated.
