A light agenda left few action items for commissioners to implement Tuesday. Here are three things to know about the March 20 meeting:

  • In the wake of the multiple package bombings that have occurred around the Austin area, County Judge Sarah Eckhardt urged residents to remain vigilant and not touch, move or handle any suspicious or unknown packages but to call the nearest law enforcement agency by dialing 911. Authorities are seeking information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect. Anonymous tips can be submitted to the tips hotline by calling 512-472-TIPS or 1-800-893-TIPS.

“The Commissioners Court—and the whole Travis County family—our hearts are with the families who have been affected by what could be a serial bomber,” Eckhardt said.

  • Commissioners implemented a burn ban Tuesday due to low humidity levels in the ground following recommendations from Fire Marshal Tony Callaway. The burn ban will expire April 18, but the county can choose to lift the ban sooner if conditions improve.

  • The county will take two weeks to look over a possible interlocal agreement, or ILA, with Emergency Services District 11 to provide workforce development services through training at the fire academy program. This service was previously provided by ESD 4, but last August, ESD 4 notified the county they were declining to renew the agreement. The ILA is expected to be approved April 3.
