Lyft passengers can now support local musicians by rounding up their trip fare, according to a press release from the nationwide ridesharing company. The Round Up and Donate feature allows riders to donate the remainder of their trip fare to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, a local nonprofit that provides affordable health care to uninsured musicians in need. The multi-year partnership also unlocks free rides for Austin’s low-income, working musicians who encounter challenges with transportation during the alliance's Open Enrollment healthcare event, Nov. 1-Dec. 15, and free rides to health-care appointments throughout the year. Musicians interested in obtaining free rides should email [email protected]. “Music unites the Austin community like nothing else, and this Lyft partnership enhances [the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians] ability to give back to our musicians in new ways,” said Reenie Collins, executive director of the alliance. “We are excited to be one of Lyft’s nonprofit beneficiaries in Austin, and we look forward to the impact that Lyft will have on the lives of our members as well as our city’s vibrant culture and music scene.” Since 2005, the alliance has provided more than 4,400 musicians with over $44 million in affordable health-care services, including primary and specialty care, dental, vision, hearing, alternative wellness and Hepatitis C treatment.
