Greg Olmer has been named the new Parks and Recreation Director for the city of Buda.

Olmer replaces Drew Wells who resigned from the position this summer.

Olmer comes to Buda with 15 years of parks and recreation experience. According to a press release, he most recently served as the Superintendent of Recreation for the city of Wichita, Kansas. Olmer has also worked for the city of Georgetown as Recreation Supervisor for nine years before heading to Kansas.

Olmer said he wants to to expand and grow the opportunities Buda offers and provide more recreational programing.

“In order to achieve this, it will require establishing partnerships with other civic minded organizations that have similar goals and aspirations," Olmer said. “I look forward to meeting with the council members, local civic leaders, stakeholders and the public to help the city fulfill its long-range master plans and short term goals.”

As a father of three, Olmer said that he was thrilled to see the current park space and the future plans for more park amenities that Buda has already drafted.

“The city of Buda is a wonderful community that supports and appreciates the benefits of parks,” he said. “The recent bond election is a prime example of the value placed in parks to not only conserve open space but to also develop future park land that will attract new families to the area."

Olmer holds a Bachelor of Science in Community Health and Physical Education from the University of Nebraska and a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Olmer’s first day as Parks and Recreation Director is Oct. 2.
