Update: The workshop has been rescheduled for May 29 at Buda City Hall, 121 S. Main St., from 5-7 p.m.

On Thursday Buda citizens will have the opportunity to provide input on the proposed boundary lines for the new election districts before the final draft goes to City Council.

During last November’s election, Buda residents voted to amend the city’s charter to transition from the current at-large format to six single-member districts with an at-large mayor.

Council voted in January for even-numbered council member seats to be the first to transition to single-member district seats, and in March approved the first draft of the new district lines.

At the public input workshop, attendees will participate in interactive exercises so they can make suggestions for the map.

The session is set in a come-and-go format, and there will be a brief presentation presented twice during the workshop to explain the process of creating the district lines.

Council members Wiley Hopkins in Place 2, Paul Daugereau in Place 4 and Evan Ture in Place 6 will be the first to switch to districts A, B and C. The single-member district position replacing the Place 2 seat will carry a one-year term; Place 4 a three-year term; and Place 6 a two-year term to ensure staggered elections of the seats.

The workshop will be on May 10 at Buda City Hall, 121 S. Main St., from 6-8 p.m. The even-numbered districts will be in effect this November for elections.
